Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated electrical and control systems engineer with experience and a strong desire to contribute to project delivery while also nurturing professional growth within our team.
This role falls under our Public Sector division, where we execute projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions for major public sector organizations primarily the NHS. Collaborating closely with a Lead Engineer your responsibilities will encompass preparing electrical and control engineering deliverables.
Your involvement spans the entire project lifecycle, from initial site surveys and concept development to detailed design, commissioning support, and project handover.
Your primary responsibilities will include
- Designing distributed generation and renewable energy systems.
- Crafting detailed designs for low-voltage (LV) distribution systems.
- Specifying high-voltage (HV) installation requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with GB Distribution Code (G99, G100, etc.).
- Conducting electrical calculations, encompassing load estimation, equipment sizing, and cable and protection device selection.
- Selecting and specifying electrical equipment for integration with combined heat and power (CHP), heat pumps, and district heating systems.
- Developing construction-ready detailed designs, comprising single-line diagrams, control panel drawings, block cable diagrams, cable schedules, material lists, and design risk assessments.
- Defining the scope of work and interfaces for subcontractor packages.
- Demonstrating proficiency in AutoCAD LT and Amtech (or equivalent software).
- Leveraging familiarity with EPLAN (if applicable).
- Possessing knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, safe working practices, and environmental best practices.
- Understanding of control systems for power management and building controls (PLCs, SCADA, BMS, etc.).
- Having knowledge of earthing and/or lightning protection (if applicable).
- Familiarity with fire detection, machinery safety, or metering is an advantage.
Qualifications Ideally, you come from a background in electrical design engineering within building services renewables or a related field. We are looking for candidates with the following skills competencies and experience.

Specific Competencies
- Technical Knowledge : A robust understanding of engineering fundamentals and energy technologies coupled with some post-education experience.
- Attention to Detail : Proficiency in applying a thorough approach to each stage of the design process, from concept to detailed design.
- Cross-Functional Communication : Effective communication across all levels and the ability to collaborate with internal and external teams of varying technical or commercial orientations to achieve successful outcomes.
- Safety in Design : Adeptness in complying with CDM 2015 regulations and contributing to design safety reviews and risk assessments.
Education Required
- Possession of a degree, ONC, HNC in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
